Who Am I?

My name is Delyth Owen-Lewis and I am the face behind

The Expressive Arts Studio, South Wales!

About me

First and foremost - I am a proud wife and mother, who has a passion for making the arts fun and accessible for everyone!

My journey into the world of Expressive Arts started when I was very young.

My first taste of it was watching ‘The Sound of Music’ on TV with my Grandmother and then later taking a trip to see my first West End show, ‘Starlight Express’.

My curiosity hit it’s peak when I watched Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Cats’ in London and took a tour behind the scenes to learn all of the tips and tricks that made the show what it was.

From that moment - I was hooked.

I joined a local amateur dramatics society in Port Talbot called ‘Prelude’ when I was 12 and was lucky enough to play so many roles that I still absolutely treasure to this day. Being part of this small town group gave me the most amazing opportunities; the privilege to perform at His Majesty’s Theatre in London and taking the lead role in an educational film called ‘What Goes Around’ which was shot entirely on location in South Wales. As my confidence grew I finally, in Year 13 of comprehensive, auditioned for the role of Sarah Brown in ‘Guys and Dolls’ and to my amazement .... I got it!

This was the final boost I needed. I went on to successfully complete a BA Honours degree in Drama and Theatre Studies at Aberystwyth University, then I moved to London where I accepted a place to study at The MTA (The Musical Theatre Academy) After moving home from London, I decided that I still wanted to work in the arts in any capacity that I could, so, I decided to instil my love of everything creative into the next       generation of budding imagineers - children and young adults. I worked with children and adults from all   backgrounds and abilities, teaching music, dance and drama and after working in education as PPA cover for several years, I decided it was time to finally do my PGCE in Secondary Drama.

After 14 wonderful years of teaching at Crickhowell High School, educating people about the wonder of the arts is all I want to do - but in a capacity that is my own. And so ‘The Expressive Arts Studio, South Wales’ was born.

In the words of Mary Poppins ....

‘Anything can happen if you let it’
